Collections Unwrapped Talk: 10 January
Kirsty Hartsiotis, Curator of Decorative Arts & Designated Collections on Re-interpreting the Arts and Crafts collection: mobile phone apps, the new Arts and Crafts gallery and the Open Archive
These are exciting times at Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum. As the new extension takes shape on Clarence Street, staff are beavering away behind the scenes developing new displays, exhibitions and activities for when the Art Gallery & Museum reopens. The continuing series of talks arranged by the Friends of the Art Gallery & Museum is focussing on the new building and displays.
The series kicks off in the new year on Thursday 10 January with Curator of Decorative Arts and Designated Collections, Kirsty Hartsiotis, talking on: Re-interpreting the Arts and Crafts collection: mobile phone apps, the new Arts and Crafts gallery and the Open Archive. A multi-strand approach has been taken to interpreting the internationally important Arts and Crafts Movement collection, so that it is accessible to all inside and outside the Art Gallery & Museum.
The series continues on the 7 February with Helen Brown, Collections Mananger talking about The new Art Gallery: from Brussels to Cheltenham, the Baron de Ferrieres and his gift, on the 7 March with Jane Lillystone, Museum and TYourism Manager with Building for a new future: a sustainable development for Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum and the series will end on the 4 April with Jenny Sergeant talking on A story from the Open Archive: Madame Wright - a Cheltenham Fashion Retailer and her Customers, 1925-1953.
The talks are taking place in the Regency Room at the Queen's Hotel, Imperial Square on Thursday evenings at monthly intervals. Each evening will start at 6.00pm with a complimentary glass of wine. The illustrated talk will start at 6.30pm and the evening will conclude by 7.30pm.
Tickets, at £8 for Friends and £9 for non-Friends, are on sale in advance at the Tourist Information Centre in the Promenade, and also on the door. All proceeds go to the Friends for their continuing support of the Art Gallery & Museum development.
The spring talks all focus on the new development Building for a new future and the collections that will be on show in the new displays. They will be held on the first Thursday of the month.
