Collections Unwrapped talk 2 February: Arts and Crafts Artists
Talk organised by the Friends of Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum as part of their Collections Unwrapped series.
This month's talk is by Museum Guide Michael Storm, and is entitled Artists of the Arts & Crafts Movement. This talk will discuss a selection of artists, all with regional connections, most represented in the Gallery's collections, whose work in various ways reflects the values and attitudes of the Arts and Crafts Movement.
New Online Exhibition of a Briton of Distinction: May Morris
We’ve recently launched a new online exhibition on the website devoted to one of the most important women in the Arts and Crafts Movement and a leading light in the revival of embroidery: May Morris. She has recently been celebrated in Royal Mail’s latest set of commemorative stamps, Britons of Distinction. New Series of Collections Unwrapped Talks starting 27th September
A second series of the highly successful Collections Unwrapped talks starts this autumn. These talks are arranged by the Friends of Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum. This season's talks are given by nationally known experts and inspired by Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum’s Arts and Crafts Movement collections. The talks take place at the Queen's Hotel, Cheltenham, and tickets can be acquired from Cheltenham's Tourist Information Centre.
New Season of Collections Unwrapped Talks for 2013
The Friends of Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum are continuing their programme of regular monthly talks designed to stimulate and maintain interest in the famous Cheltenham Collections. These talks are being given by past and present curators and other acknowledged experts.
The spring talks all focus on the new development Building for a new future and the collections that will be on show in the new displays. They will be held on the first Thursday of the month.
The first talk will be Re-interpreting the Arts and Crafts collection: mobile phone apps, the new Arts and Crafts gallery and the Open Archive on the 10 January 2013 by Kirsty Hartsiotis, Curator of Decorative Arts and Designated Collections.
Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum announces re-opening date
Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum will be re-opening to the public on the 5th October 2013, after a major new build costing in the region of £6 million.
This elegant and stylish building, designed by architects Berman Guedes Stretton, has something for everybody, whether they are local to the area, or coming to Cheltenham for the first time.
The Wilson re-opens!
The Wilson Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum re-opened to the public on Saturday 5 October 2013. Four new floors house a re-interpreted Arts and Crafts Movement Gallery and Furniture Store showing the world-renowned Designated collection, a new gallery dedicated to The Wilson’s extensive fine art collection, and two superb temporary exhibition galleries – for showing national and international touring shows, special highlights from the collections and fun shows for families.
The Paper Store: a new gallery for The Wilson
The Wilson Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum has opened a brand new gallery that allows visitors to delve into new displays of the Museum’s extensive archive collections that tell the story of the town and its people, and the Arts and Crafts designers and makers who settled in Gloucestershire. The Paper Store features the Museum’s paper collections, many of which will be on display for the first time.

A new selection of exquisite books from the Emery Walker Library made by the third great private press of the early 20th century is featured in The Wilson's gallery of archival material, The Paper Store. Also featured in the gallery are works by Arts and Crafts Movement designers and artists Ernest Gimson, Sidney Barnsley, Freda Derrick and Eric Sharpe.
